I went to see an old friend in wickenburg AZ. We were out in his yard bullshitting when some old rusty thing in the back yard caught my eye. I said: "Carl, what in the hell do you have in the back lot?" He replied: "Oh, thats the old car my dad gave me back in the 50's that I used to go back and forth to high school in." Now get this, Carl is currently 82 years old. He told me his father bought the car brand new in 1926. Carl got the car in 1952. He started messing with it and got the original motor running again. He also added kelsey wheels and jazzed up the dash a little bit. Getting back to my story, I asked him if he wanted to sell the old car and he quickly gave me a definate "No." About a year went by and I recieved a call from Carl who asked if I was serious about buying the old car. I said: "I guess?" and asked him what he wanted out of it. He repiled $1,500. When I heard that I nearly fell out of my chair! I told him it was only worth about $400. Well over time I got weak, mostly because of the cars' history. We settled on $1,000 with the conditon that I wouldn't chop it up and hot rod it. The tempation was too strong, shame on me! I told my guys not to bother me for a few days, made frequent trips to the attic digging out neat old parts. Including a franklin quick change rear end, some cool zoomies for my merc flathead, some nice magnesium front runners and a set of slicks. Before I knew it I had the start of a crazy hot rod sitting in the shop. I'm not going to do any body work or paint on this one just leave it all ratty.
I just want to jump in, fire it up and have fun. Click on a picture to see it in fullsize.
